Our Team

Mūmbi Kīgūtha CPPS was born and raised in Kenya but currently resides in Silver Spring, MD. She has worked with diverse vulnerable populations in various parts of the world, including assignments with various U.N. agencies. Currently, she ministers full-time as President of Friends in Solidarity, a non-profit that supports development efforts in South Sudan. Mūmbi is also the founder and director of Watawa wa Taa, an initiative aimed at – Reimagining and Revitalizing Religious life for African Women.
She is a reconciliation consultant for various organizations and a sought after speaker, writer and facilitator.
In addition to earning a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Mūmbi has a graduate theological degree in Justice Ministry and a Certificate in Pastoral Ministry, both from the Catholic Theological Union, and a Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching. She holds a certificate in the circle process and is currently pursuing a PhD in Transformative Social Change.
Lisa Spriggens is Head of Counselling at Laidlaw College, Auckland, New Zealand. In this role she oversees the delivery of a Bachelor of Counselling, teaching subjects such as trauma, professional practices, ethics and the integration of theology and counselling. She also serves on the Senior Leadership Team of the College. Lisa has a Master of Counselling, trained specifically in Narrative Therapy. She has recently completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Her PhD research examines the relationship trauma counsellors have with their own self-care. With a clinical background working with survivors of sexual violence, Lisa regularly delivers workshops within church and parachurch contexts, training leaders in trauma-informed practice and supporting survivors of sexual harm.
Her publications are focused on the integration of counselling theory and theology, and how this might support those who have experienced trauma.


Dr Rocio Figueroa Alvear is a Peruvian Catholic Theologian, Lecturer in Systematic Theology at the Catholic Theological College in Auckland, New Zealand. She has a bachelor’s degree and license in theology from the Pontifical Faculty of Theology in Lima and her doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Figueroa’s present research focus is theological and pastoral responses for survivors of Church sexual and spiritual abuse. As a survivor she feels compelled to speak up for other survivors of abuse.
